Bishop Spalding has announced the wonderful news that one of the new deacons to be ordained on April 1 will be assigned to our parish.
Dr. Shawn Phillips will be ordained by Bishop Spalding on April 1 as part of the new class of permanent deacons. Shawn and his wife Pam are long-time St. Edward parishioners and have three adult sons. They live near Mt. Juliet in the community of Gladeville. Shawn is a Chemistry professor at Vanderbilt, and Pam is a registered nurse. Shawn and Pam have joined us at Mass many times over the years and already know many of our parishioners through connections with St. Edward's, Father Ryan High School, and other ministries and activities around the diocese. We are thrilled to welcome Shawn and Pam to be part of our St. Patrick family.
Following his ordination, Shawn will take a few weeks to celebrate with his family and his home parish. He will begin his service at St. Patrick in mid-April, and we look forward to the opportunity to welcome him and benefit from his new ministry among us. In the meantime, let's pray for Shawn as he makes his final preparations for ordination and the start of his diaconal ministry.
