Patron: Ambrose is the patron saint of Milan
Saint Ambrose was born between 337 and 339 at Trier, Germany,
into a Christian family. Ambrose studied at Rome and became a
brilliant lawyer.  Nominated bishop of Milan by acclamation in 374, he
was baptized and consecrated in a week.  He battled the Arian heresy
and completed important liturgical and pastoral reforms in the diocese
of Milan.  His cult spread immediately after his death, in Milan in 379.  
He is often depicted in episcopal vestments with staff and scourge, he
is sometimes presented horseback.
